Hiking

Sóller, heaart of Tramuntana and hub of great number of itineries

Mallorca is one of the most attractive places for Hiking, offering an endless variety of terrain:
treks on ridges; dry stone paths; treks to snow houses and charcoal burners; excursions in forests, beside torrents and a range of incredible landscapes, almost always within sight of a vivid blue sea. Sóller is in the heart of the Tramuntana Sierra and so, is the hub of a great number of itineries.

The Association of Sóller Hoteliers offers its clients experienced guides and exclusive outings, almost daily from February to June and in September and October.

Ruta de la piedra en seco (dry stone work)

The promotion of hiking in Mallorca, following the dry stone trails is considered a splendid way to get to know the craft of dry stone work and it is an activity available to all ages and abilities.
For those who enjoy walking it is a simple way to explore and enjoy the countryside and all it has to offer (history, art, tradition, legend).

The Government of Mallorca began this promotion by repairing and signposting the different routes of interest. Then, becoming more ambitious they have established two hiking trails linking the towns Andraix and Pollensa.

These itineraries encourage extensive expeditions and help boost the economies of the towns en route., always respecting the well-being of the countryside. Hiking helps revive and maintain the state of the paths and local amenities, encourages new occupations for residents, promotes the gastronomy and craft-work of the area and revives the agricultural and traditional skills of local tradesmen.

The two routes mentioned are envisaged as long distance hikes (Gran Reccorido, GR), of more than 50 Km evaluated and assessed by the Spanish Federation of Sport and Mountaineering.

The extensive signposting of these ‘GR’ is in two ways, ‘balizas’ and ‘palos direccionales’.
The ‘balizas’ are wooden posts with directional arrows in the distinctive ‘GR’ colours, red and white. The ‘palos direccionales’ have an indication of the type of walk and its number, the destination and, when feasible, the approximate time it should take.
